Last year, a tragedy took Kannada film industry by storm when the two stuntmen died while shooting for an action sequence on the sets of Duniya Vijay starrer Maasthugudi. Well, the tragic incident is back in the news. Actor Duniya Vijay has been reportedly arrested for obstructing the police from arresting producer Sundar P Gowda last month. Sundar P Gowda is one of the accused in the case.
According to media reports, an FIR was lodged against the actor after allowing the producer to escape from the police. Since then actor was on a run and finally, has been arrested by the Channammanakere Achukattu police in Tamil Nadu.
The accident happened when the stuntmen had to jump off a helicopter into a reservoir in Tippagondanahalli. Apparently, Anil and Uday, the stuntmen, were not wearing life jackets and did not know how to swim resulting in them drowning in the water body.
The police registered a case against the director, producer and the hero of Maasthigudi for their negligence. However, Duniya Vijay had got a relief in the case after he was not named in the list by the police.
Ramanagara district police had submitted a charge sheet to the court and charged six persons in the case. Producer Sundar Gowda, director Nagashekhar, stunt director Ravi Varma, assistant director Siddarth and chopper pilot Prakash Biradar were named as accused in the charge sheet. Duniya Vijay was listed as a witness to the accident since he did not have any involvement in the production of the film.
Duniya Vijay was banned by the Kannada film council following the accident last year. Vijay’s film Maasthugudi hasn’t seen the light of the day since the death of the stuntmen – Anil and Uday and his career has hit a roadblock.
