The Karnataka state government has announced the Rajyotsava Awards which is given away on the occasion of Karnataka Formation Day every year on November 1st. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will give away these awards on November 1st and the government has chosen 62 eminent personalities which includes popular South Indian singer and musician KJ Yesudas and yesteryear popular actress Kanchana.
Also in the list of awardees is eminent writer Ramachandra Guha who has been very vocal about the state of politics in the state. However, many say that inclusion of Guha comes a surprise since he recently was in the news for opposing the state government’s recent move to build a steel flyover in Bengaluru.
Kannada actress Kanchana is also among the awardees and it is being said that she was chosen by the government since she was living in poverty and the officials wanted to extend the government support to her.

Theatre: Belur Krishnamurthy, Gudur Mamatha, C.K. Gundanna, Shivappa Bharamappa Adaragunchi, A. Varalakshmi and N.Y. Puttannaiah
Film and TV: Dr K.J. Yesudas, Kanchana, Mukjyamantri Chandru and Hassan Raghu
Music and Dance: Lalita J. Rao, Rajaprabhu Dhotre, Rajendra Singh Pawar, Veeresh Kittur and Ullal Mohan Kumar
Folklore: Tamburi Javarayya, Shavamma, Goravara Mailarappa, Tayamma, Manappa Eerappa Lohar, Krishnappa Govindappa Puradar and Dengamma Karadigudda
