A budding film director Santosh Shetty Kateel met a tragic incident after they met a watery grave at Erami waterfalls near Ujire in Belthangady taluk on Wednesday. According to media reports, he died after he accidentally slipped into falls while he and his team were on a photoshoot.
According to police, the budding film director and his four other friends were on a photoshoot for his upcoming Kannada movie Gandhada Kudi, Chandan Van. The team had completed around 90 per cent of shooting. Reportedly, they reached the place on Tuesday and headed to the shoot on Wednesday morning at Ermayi falls.
After they reached the location, a local reportedly warned them to not get into the water as it can be highly dangerous due to incessant rains. However, they went ahead with their shoot. For one of the scenes, Santosh Shetty Kateel had to wear a heavy metal outfit. For the scene, the film director stood on the edge of the falls and during which, his leg slipped with his heavy costume. The incident took place at around 10:30 AM. Fire and emergency personnel fished out Shetty’s body.
Police have booked the case under Indian Penal Code 304(a) (Whoever causes the death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide…)
The talented director Shetty had obtained his animation degree and worked in local TV channels as an animator before getting into film-making.
The director is known for his film, Kanasu Kannu Theredaga, a Kannada kids’ movie directed by debutant Santhosh Shetty Kateel and produced by Ganasiri Creations in collaboration with Manikya Combines. The film was envisioned by Kiran kumar puttur and written and developed by Santhosh Shetty Kateel. The film featured newcomers Gangadar Bellare, Thammanna shetty and debutant child actors Jagadish.t and Pranava Bellare.
