Kannada top actor Darshan’s career catapulted with Kariya, released in 2003, and made one of the bankable stars in Sandalwood. Darshan is now considered one of the top stars in Kannada film industry and has acted in quite a few commercial hits in his career so far. And now, buzz in the industry is that a sequel to Kariya is being planned, titled Kariya 2. However, producer Paramesh clarifies that Kariya 2 is not a sequel and has a new dimension to it. Kariya 2 will feature debutante Santhosh Balaraj, who is the son of Anekal Balaraj who is the producer of Kariya.
“The rights to the sequel was with Anekal Balaraj, the producer of Kariya. When we decided to launch his son, Santhosh, we thought of taking the title because of the weightage that comes with it — what with Kariya having marked a turning point of sorts in Darshan’s career. This is a completely new story, which as has two dimensions to it. The fact that we spent over a year preparing for the film — for the right screenplay, perfect locations, brilliant songs, etc. — is proof of the commitment towards this project. We have been in no hurry whatsoever, and only insisted on a tastefully done film,” producer Paramesh told TOI.
Paramesh also added that Darshan, who featured in Kariya, called him and congratulated him for Kariya 2 after the trailer was recently released. “Darshan personally called after watching the trailer and complimented us. He loved it. While we are a bit worked up about the audience’s expectations surrounding the film post the release of the trailer, I am confident that Kariya 2 will do for Santhosh what Kariya did for Darshan,” added Paramesh.
