This week is going to be interesting for the moviegoers as not one but more than three films will be releasing at the box office. One of the most anticipated films to hit the screens this Friday is Yash starrer KGF. It is a period drama that traces the history of gold mining and the mafia running it in the generous fields of Karnataka’s Kolar region. It is releasing in five languages- Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam. Trade analyst Girish Johar in a conversation with Pinkvilla predicted first day box office numbers of the film.
He said, “KGF will be big down the South but the Hindi market traction and the release is quite at a low level and obviously with a huge competition coming from Zero, I believe the first option of the film for the audience will be Zero in Hindi market. Considering everything falls into place for KGF, it should open anywhere between Rs 3-5 crores (Hindi version). Weekend collection depends on the word of mouth and if the film opens to around Rs 4crores, then it should go to around Rs 13-15 crores over the first weekend. But if it is not received well in the Hindi market then it would end up at around Rs 10 crores.”
Talking about the business down South, Girish Johar said, “The advances down South are very good and the collection will be good in other languages.”
Tamil film Maari 2 starring Dhanush, Sai Pallavi, Krishna Kulasekaran and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar is also releasing tomorrow. Antariksham 9000KMPH, starring Lavanya Tripathi, Aditi Rao Hydari and Varun Tej, and Padi Padi Leche Manasu are among other films releasing this week at the box office.
