Earlier today, rumours of veteran actor Jayanthi’s sad demise began doing the rounds and left fans heartbroken. However, it seems that the rumours were not true. In the latest development,her family has clarified that she is ‘recovering’ and things are under control.

In case you did not know, Jayanthi was admitted to a noted hospital on Sunday after complaining of breathing trouble. While talking about her health, her son had said that she was under observation and in a critical condition.

“She has been suffering from asthma for 35 years. She used inhalers every day and was never admitted to hospital over breathing issues. Last evening, her health started deteriorated and she was taken to Sidvin Hospital. Based on doctor’s advises, we shifted her to Vikram Hospital in Cunningham Road. The doctors have told us that she will be kept under observation for the next 24 hours. She is currently on the ventilator,” he had added.

Jayanthi was an integral part of Southern cinema in the 1960s and 1970s. She acted in all the four major South languages and won hearts along the way. She also worked in a few Hindi films during her career. Jayanthi got her first break when director YR Swamy noticed her during a rehearsal and cast her in Jenu Goodu which became big hit. In the years that followed, she became a top star in Kannada cinema and acted alongside the legendary Dr. Rajkumar several times. Some of their most popular films include Nanda Gokula and Baalu Belagithu. At her peak, she became so popular that she was often referred to as the ‘Goddess of Acting’.

Jayanthi’s stint in Tamil cinema was just as successful as her career in Sandalwood. She acted opposite all the leading stars of her time– right from Gemini Ganesan to MGR—and proved that she belonged to the big league. Her fans regard her as one of the bonafide lady superstars of her era.
