For his transformation, Mohanlal also took the help of a team of fitness experts comprising masseurs, yoga masters and dermatologists from France. His workout routine also included high-intensity exercises.

Odiyan is a fantasy thriller written by K. Harikrishnan. It is based on the legend of Odiyan, who in Kerala folklore are men possessing shape-shifting ability – men who can assume animal form. Odiyans are said to have inhabited the Malabar region of Kerala during the pre-electricity era.

The film also stars Manju Warrier and Prakash Raj and is produced by Aashirvad Cinemas. The team shot for the movie in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

Interestingly, Mohanlal is teaming up with Prakash Raj after several years. The last time they were seen sharing screen space was in the Mani Ratnam directorial Iruvar which released two decades ago.

The director had said about the film, “We are talking about reversing over 15 years and have roped in a team to get him a younger look. This includes a team of 25 people that monitors his diet and workout. The kind of training they provide is something athletes go through. It includes sucking out water from the body, so as to ensure a trim look. Mohanlal is extremely thrilled to undergo the process.”

The film will apparently be released in Tamil and Telugu as well along with the Malayalam version.

Menon also clarified that it is not a dark horror movie as it is made out to be but a super hero movie made with class. He said, “It is planned as a mass entertainer. The climax is long and thrilling and will have the audiences glued to their seats. It has been shot in four different locations. The film is also loaded with stunts on par with international standards. Hollywood stunt choreographer Peter Hein has designed the stunts and it has been shot well.”

The director added, “The basic idea of the film is to break the mystery and myth associated with the tribe that had lived in various part of Kerala in the past.”

The songs of the film are composed by M. Jayachandran while the lyrics are written by Rafeeq Ahammed and Lakshmi Sreekumar. Shreya Ghoshal has rendered a song to the film.

Mohanlal first broke the news nine months ago when he wrote on his facebook page, “Announcing my next project Odiyan.
