During a recent chat with a leading daily, actress Parvathy—who is one of the most popular names in Southern cinema—opened up about why she decided to enter Bollywood with the rom-com ‘Qarib Qarib Singlle’ and said that she just could not let go of the opportunity to work with an actor of Irrfan’s calibre. She went on to add that just like her, Irrfan Khan too is extremely passionate about good cinema.
“I was so relieved to know it was him. We’re from such different cultures but we have the same excitement about our craft,” she added.
The actress also revealed that she is a fan of director Tanuja Chandra’s work and was sure that any character written by her would be pretty good.
“I had watched Tanuja’s Dushman, when I was in school and it had made a strong impression on me. I knew that any character written by her would be strong,” she said.
Interestingly, Parvathy—who has been in the in the industry for 11 years—believes in working on her own terms and does not hesitate to say no to films that do not excite her. In fact, she once turned down a film as it was ‘regressive’. Talking about this approach, she said that nothing is ‘indespensable’ and there is enough space for one to do things on his/her terms.
“In the 11 years I’ve worked in films, I’ve realised that no one is indispensable and that has actually been very comforting to know. If you want to do something, you’ll find the space to do it. And I’m in no hurry to go anywhere or be something. I’m just happy to do my work,” added the actress.
