Priya Varrier on becoming an internet sensation: I’m falling short of words trying to express myself.

There can be no denying that young Mollywood actor Priya Varrier has become the newest heartthrob of Malayalam cinema thanks to her cute wink in the much-loved Manikya Malaraya Poovi from Oru Adaar Love. The song talks about the tender romance between two school sweethearts and is the perfect song for the V-day season.  The popularity of the young lady can be judged by the fact that Twitter is literally flooded with memes of her. During a chat with Hindustan Times, Priya spoke about becoming an overnight sensation and said that it was a surreal experience.

“I am very happy. Don’t know how to handle so much love. It’s completely surreal. I’m falling short of words trying to express myself. Never expected this,” she added.

Priya also revealed that she had absolutely no idea that a simple wink would catapult her to fame as she was simply doing her job and nothing else.

“The director wanted me to play with my eyebrows in a certain way. It’s a mappila song (rhythmic songs in the north Kerala tradition) that has been recreated for the film. And there’s a scene where this girl and this boy converse through expressions — and the director wanted a certain mannerism. I just followed his instruction,” said the actor.

Not surprisingly, she has become every youngster’s dream girl in no time and has even received romantic proposals from some overenthusiastic fans.

“That the Indian government has declared me as a national crush was quite amusing. I remember someone had said that I look ugly without make-up, and reacting to that, this boy had written how people use a variety of filters to look good, so it’s time we appreciated natural beauty,” added Priya.

Well, we are happy for her and hope that Oru Adaar Love does well at the box office.
