Dileep’s recent arrest in connection with the actress abduction case seems to have taken a toll on his popularity amongst movie buffs. According to a news agency, even die-hard fans of the ‘Janapriya Nayakan’ are refraining from watching his films. A school teacher said that he recently refrained from purchasing a CD of Dileep’s ‘Georgechettan’s Poorem’ even though it was available.
“I was at a video shop yesterday and when the owner told me that Dileep’s latest film ‘Georgechettan Poorem’ CDs are available, I felt I should not see it and took another CD instead. The shop owner told me that his several customers now refuse to rent out a Dileep film,” added the teacher.
Moreover, it seems that some TV channels too are refraining from playing/airing his films as they fear that it could have an adverse impact on the ratings.
Well, based on this, it can be safely be said that Dileep’s alleged involvement in this case has affected him personally as well as professionally.
For the uninitiated, this February, a popular Malayalam actress was abducted and tortured while on her way to Kochi. This created a buzz in the industry and soon AMMA organised a protest meet, condemning the incident. At the event, Manju Warrier said that there was a conspiracy behind the whole case. Dileep came under the radar after the main accused Pulsar Suni tried getting in touch with him from jail.
Earlier this week, on Monday, cops called him for questioning and arrested him thereafter. Following this, he was sentenced to 14 days in judicial custody. As a result of all this, he was expelled AMMA and that too in a rather unceremonious way. It remains to be seen what happens to him in the long run.
