Me Too Movement is gaining momentum in the country with Bollywood celebs taking firm action against the accused. Recently, B-town actors Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao stepped away from their respective films. On the other hand, Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) raised a point that how Malayalam cinema is doing nothing against actor Dileep who was accused of his involvement in the abduction and sexual assault of a prominent Malayalam actress.
Now according to reports, after much pressure put by the WCC members on Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) and the executive committee, President Mohanlal in a press conference revealed that he personally asked Dileep to resign, and his resignation has been accepted. He said, “He readily gave it and his resignation was accepted.” This decision comes after a week of WCC voiced its protest against AMMA for not taking any action against the accused actor.
During a press meet, AMMA secretary Siddiqui said, “Let’s say, on the other hand, if Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan were accused of sexual harassment, do you think they would have walked out of the said projects?” Siddiqui also said, “We will not accept that (Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan quitting films) as an example and deny Dileep job opportunities.”
