The entire film industry is currently in talks over the casting couch controversy. The recent Tollywood flesh trade scam has taken the industry by the storm. A couple has been arrested in luring Tollywood actresses to the US in the name of giving shows and were then pushed into prostitution. Many actresses have spoken up on the issue and have been sharing their horrifying encounter over the casting couch. The recent actress to speak is Malayalam actress Honey Rose, who reveals that casting couch exits in the industry.
According to a report in Online Manorama, she said, “Yes, it is true that casting couch exists in the industry. Unless and until you are a big star, every woman artiste gets to face various problems.”
She recalled the early days of her career and revealed, “Initially when I joined the industry, there have been times, when I have witnessed many such incidents. There would be times when you will be brainwashed. But an artiste should know her place and stick to her values.”
Honey Rose also went on to reveal, “We make our decisions and we are responsible for everything that happens to us. Casting couch will be there.”
Honey said that one has to take precautions to not fall victim to abusers. She said, “You are safe as long as you don’t have to please anyone physically. In my case, my parents always accompany me on my sets and they always make sure that I am at ease during my work.”
Other than her, Sanjjana Galrani, who rose to fame with her role in Dandupalya 2 had also spoken up on the flesh trade scam.
Sri Reddy, who had protested against the casting couch in the industry also revealed that she was approached by the same couple. Speaking to News 18, Sri Reddy made a revelation that how even she was approached by the same couple. She said “They will arrange visa and everything else for you. Artists are paid anything between $1000 and $10,000, depending on their popularity.”
