Mohanlal, the president of Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) on Friday, announced that the body has accepted Malayalam actor Dileep’s resignation. The decision came after receiving complaints and pressure against the actor Dileep from Women in Cinema Collective(WCC). In a press conference, Mohanlal revealed that he personally asked Dileep to resign, and his resignation has been accepted. He said, “He readily gave it and his resignation was accepted.”
Dileep now took to Facebook to clarify that he was not asked to resign but it was him who willingly resigned from the body. He was not thrown out of AMMA, clarifies Dileep on social media. On Facebook, Dileep wrote, “I am sharing my letter of resignation from AMMA with all the members of AMMA, the general public and all my viewers. I am releasing this letter now even after it was not put out after the executive body meeting of AMMA. I am fully aware that according to the by-laws, I can only be expelled by a majority of the general body of the organization. But I believed that the organization of AMMA should not splinter away because of me. That’s why after detailed discussions with AMMA president Mohanlal, whom I consider my elder brother, I decided to offer my resignation. If my resignation letter was accepted, then it’s a resignation, not an expulsion.”
He began the letter with, “I am writing this letter with great sadness. As you know, I have been blamed and hunted for the last one and a half years for words, thoughts and actions I had never said or committed.”
