During a recent interaction with a leading daily, director Arun Gopy said that the controversy surrounding Malayalam star Dileep will not affect the fate of his delayed ‘Ramleela’. He went on to add that it will work at the box office if its content is good.
“If the movie is good, it will run in theatres. I don’t believe that casting a particular actor alone makes a movie a box office success. In that case, all superstar movies must be hits. I won’t deny that actors are part of the entertainment quotient and to some point also pull in the audience to the theatres, but ultimately a film will succeed only if the movie entertains the audience. If Ramaleela satisfies the audience, irrespective of who stars in it, they will welcome it. If it doesn’t entertain, they would snub it,” he added.
Well, that is quite a balanced response and it will be worth watching whether ‘Ramleela lives up to expectations.
In case you did not know, ‘Ramleela’ was originally scheduled to hit screens on July 7 but could not because of some production delays. Thereafter, it was rescheduled for July 21. However, these plans too went for a toss when Dileep was arrested on July 10 in connection with the infamous actress assault case on July 10. Dileep has been in custody since. As a result, the fate of Ramleela is still uncertain.
On a related note, ‘Ramleela’ is touted to be a political-thriller and features Dileep in the role of a politician. It has been produced by Tomichan Mulakkupadam.
