Popular Malayalam filmmaker I.V.Sasi passed away in Chennai today in the early hours. The veteran filmmaker was undergoing a treatment in a private hospital and breathed his last in the early hours. I.V.Sasi was 69 years old and is survived by wife Seema, who also was an actress, and two children Anu and Ani. I.V.Sasi has directed more than 150 films in various languages and is known for making classic films like Anubhavam, Aalkkoottathil Thaniye, 1921, Eeta, Mrigaya and Balram vs Tharadas among many others.
Sasi started his career in films as an art director and directed his first film at the age of 27 years which was ‘Ulsavam’. Sasi is married to actress Seema who he had met on the sets of Avalude Raavukkal which is said to be one his best films. The couple have also worked in more than 30 films together and many of them have been super hits.
Sasi has won many wards and accolades in his illustrious career which includes the JC Daniel Award in 2015. I.V.Sasi’s children are also related to the film industry with both of them being active in acting and filmmaking. While his daughter Anu has acted in Symphony which was directed by Sasi himself, his son Ani has finished a visual communication course in Chennai and is an aspiring film-maker.
Many South Indian actors, filmmakers and technicians are mourning the passing away of I.V.Sasi since he shared a warm relation with many of them across all the South Indian languages. The family is yet to confirm details about the final rites of the veteran filmmaker.
