There can be no denying that the Manikya Malaraya Poovi number from Oru Adaar Love has made young actor Priya Varrier an overnight sensation. The youngster has become the ‘National crush’ and a social media star in no time. Moreover, she’s also received romantic proposals from some passionate fans. However, she has also found herself in some trouble because of the same number. As it so happens, yesterday, a Hyderabad-based youth filed a complaint against the actor and the makers of the number for ‘hurting religious sentiments’. According to him, the number spoke about Prophet Muhammad in a demeaning way.
Now, Priya has spoken about the controversy. While speaking to a leading channel, she said that the song in question is not a romantic number but comes across as one as it is quite soothing.
“It is not a romantic song. It is usually sung at Muslim occasions. It is not a totally romantic song but being as soothing as it is, it makes it romantic,” she added.
Well, this quite a mature answer and proves that she is not keen to court controversy in anyway, whatsoever.
In case you were not aware, the Manikya Malaraya Poovi song has been composed by Thalassery K Refeeque and recreated by top composer Shaan Rahman. Vineeth Sreenivasan has crooned it like a boss and added a new dimension to it. The video revolves around two lovers and is set in a college/school setting. In it, the sweethearts can be seen exchanging shy glances at each other and making us believe in the power of love. The highlight of the video clearly is Priya’s wink.
Interestingly, recently while talking about her popularity, she had said that it was something totally unexpected.
“I am very happy. Don’t know how to handle so much love. It’s completely surreal. I’m falling short of words trying to express myself. Never expected this,” she had added.
Oru Adaar Love has been directed by Omar Lulu and will hit screens soon
