The Kerala government announced the State Awards for the Malayalam film industry and many top actors and hit films bagged the awards. While Parvathy grabbed the Best Actor Female award, Lijo Jose grabbed the state award for Best Director for his film. However, the awards have come under criticism from one filmmaker – Sanal Kumar Sasidharan. Sanal, who made the acclaimed film S Durga, slammed the government for ignoring his film and the artists in it. Sanal Kumar Sasidharan also says that only this kind of treatment can be expected from the government. “Not at all. From this government I didn’t expect anything different. Wasn’t it obvious?“, Sanal was quoted as saying by TOI.

Sanal seemed disappointed with the way artists and technicians of his film were ignored too for the Kerala State Awards. “The sync sound, camera and music in the film have been much appreciated, even internationally. I expected some kind of recognition for those artistes. I feel they missed out only because they worked in my film. We even had sound recorded in a moving vehicle. It doesn’t bother me but it’s an injustice to those artistes. To think that their work was ignored because of the government’s political differences with me,” he further said.

The Kerala state government announced the Kerala State Awards for the year 2018 recognising the films, the makers and actors for 2017. Parvathy won the Best Actor – Female award for her role in Take Off while Indrans bagged the same award in Male category for his intense performance in Aalorukkam. Lijo Jose bagged the Best Director Award for his film E Ma You while Ottamuri Velicham won the Best Film award this year. Mahesh Narayanan won the Best Debut Director award for his much acclaimed and superhit film Take Off that starred Parvathy and is an adaptation of the story of stranded nurses in Tikrit, Iraq.
