Malayalam actor Aju Varghese was arrested early this week for revealing the identity of the victim in the Malayalam actress case on his social networking page. Aju was arrested by the police and later was given a station bail by the SHO, reported Manorama Online. Aju had posted a message on his Facebook page supporting Dileep in the Malayalam actress case and named the victim in his message which lead to his arrest. Aju had later apologised for this but a case has been registered on him for this.
“The arrest of Aju Varghese has been recorded today (Tuesday). He has been granted station bail later,” Circle Inspector S Jayakrishnan told the leading portal. Police have also confiscated his mobile phone which was used to post the message on his Facebook page.
“Aju has admitted to naming the woman survivor and he had apologised at the time. We have now confiscated his iPhone. It is from this phone that he had updated the Facebook post. We have sent the phone for scientific examination to verify whether the post was uploaded from this device. After the results arrive, we will proceed to arrest Aju Varghese,” the Circle Inspector had told TheNewsMinute after Aju was interrogated.
Aju’s Facebook post supporting Dileep in the Malayalam actress assault case drew a lot of flak from netizens and was trolled for his opinion. An FIR was filed against Aju Varghese on July 3 and a case was also registered under section 22 B (A) of the IPC. On June 26, Aju Varghese revealed the name of the actress in his post, extending support to Dileep when the latter was facing allegations of conspiring the kidnap and assault of the Malayalam actress.
