Actor Dileep, who has been in custody since July 10 in connection with the Malayalam actress assault case, has just filed a fresh bail plea before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. In his plea, he has stressed that he has already spent nearly 60 days in judicial custody and the SIT is yet to come up with any major charges against.
Interestingly, the JFM had previously dismissed his bail plea after opposition from the prosecution. Moreover, the Kerala High court too has dismissed his plea on two separate occasions. It will be worth watching whether he has better luck this time around.
In case you did not know, earlier this year, a popular Malayalam actress was abducted and assaulted while on her way to Kochi. This created a buzz in the industry and soon AMMA organised a protest meet, condemning the incident. At the event, Manju Warrier spoke about how there was a conspiracy behind the whole case and urged AMMA to ensure that justice prevailed. Dileep came under a cloud when the main accused Pulsar Suni tried contacting him from jail. This led to his arrest on July 10.
On a related note, Dileep’s current predicament has taken a toll on his professional standing and affected his film ‘Ramleela’. The Arun Gopy directorial was slated to hit screens on July 21. However, these plans went for a toss when Dileep got arrested. Yesterday, the film’s makers confirmed that it will finally hit screens on Sept 28. It remains to be seen if ‘Ramleela’ works at the box office despite all the controversies
