Just when AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) is under a lot of fire over getting back rape accused Dileep, the industry is currently in the news after actress Nisha Sarang accuses of harassment. The huge controversy regarding women’s safety and rights is quite in question.
The most viewed Malayalam television show, Uppum Mulakum is currently in the news for all the wrong reasons. The show has hit the headlines after actress Nisha Sarang has raised serious allegations against the director of ‘Uppum Mulakum’ in which she plays a key role. Nisha, who plays the role of Neelima in the TV serial, has reportedly alleged that director of the show R. Unnikrishnan misbehaved with her several times. The reports further state that when the actress complained about the issue to the channel authorities, the director of Uppum Mulakum treated her with vengeance. After the incident, the actress has been replaced on the show.
The viewers are demanding justice for the actress on social media and have been putting out their opinions on the same. This has left everyone in shock after Nisha Sarang alleged that director R Unnikrishnan has been sending her sexually suggestive messages and then misbehaving with her on the sets.
She revealed to TNN, “He revealed his true identity one week after the show started. Though I ignored his messages, his behaviour remained the same. I didn’t want to expose him in public as I feared I would be thrown out of the show which is very popular in Malayalam television.”
Nisha continued, “Recently I had to attend an award function in the US and had notified the director about the same. When I returned, I was told that I was no longer part of the show. I complained to the channel authorities, but they did not pay heed to it. The channel had warned this director earlier when I complained about his misbehaviour but now the channel is turning a blind eye towards me and the problems.”
However, the director denies the allegations and told TNN that she has not been removed from the cast. However, in an interview to Reporter TV, Nisha had said, “The leave approval from managing director of the channel is on my mail. Everyone on the sets is witness to him (Unnikrishnan) giving me the nod to take off from work. Now, if I return to the sets, he will continue to harass me, even more, brutal than before.”
Uppum Mulakum is the most viewed television show in Malayalam television. The show has a huge fan following. The story portrays the life of a middle-class family.
