2017 was a stupendous year for Malayalam cinema with some good films and hit songs being churned out. One song which stood out as a highlight was the popular Jimikki Kammal. Composed by Shaan Rahman, Jimikki Kammal was a hit number from the film Velipadinte Pusthakam which starred Mohanlal in the lead role. Jimikki Kammal went on to garner more than 80 million views on YouTube and many reprise versions of the song are available for the song making the most popular Malayalam song in recent years. And now, in a surprising turn of events, the song has been taken down from YouTube which is shocking everyone around. Music director Shaan Rahman took to his Facebook page and clarified that Jimiki Kammal has been pulled down after the TV channel that bought the copyrights of the film Velipadinte Pusthakam claimed the rights on the song. Eventually, the song had to be taken down by the YouTube channel due to copyright issues.
“Dear friends, everyone has been asking me to comment about the disappearance of the video of Jimikki Kammal. It was close to 80 millions views. Or may be above. Not sure. By now you’ve all must’ve understood that it was taken down because of a copyright issue. The channel who bought the rights of the movie took it down,” Shaan Rahman wrote in his long statement. Jimikki Kammal has been one of the biggest hit songs in Malayalam in the recent past and had garnered attention of international audiences too. A user on Twitter once asked international talk show host, Jimmy Kimmel, if he had the song and the name of the song is similar to his name. Jimmy replied stating he hadn’t heard it till then but likes the song now. Jimikki Kammal till date stands as the most viewed song on YouTube in Malayalam cinema.
