Actress Prachi Tehlan, who made her acting debut with TV show Diya Aur Baati Hum, is gearing up to star opposite Malayalam superstar Mammootty in Sajeev Pillai directorial Mamankam. “Yes, I am doing a film with Mammootty sir. It’s the biggest Malayalam film ever being made. The shoot has started. I can’t reveal much about the film but it’s a wonderful experience to be a part of such a big project and my first in south,” Tehlan said in a statement to IANS. This will mark the debut of Prachi in Malayalam cinema and yet another introduction of new face in Malayalam from North after the likes of Isha Talwar, Wamiqa Gabbi and many others.
Prachi made her film debut with Punjabi film Arjan opposite Roshan Prince directed by Mandip Singh. She was also seen in the lead role in Bailaras opposite Binnu Dhillon. Set in the 17th century, Mamankam is based on the medieval fair by the same name, which was celebrated every 12 years from 800 AD to 1755 AD. More details about the film and rest of the cast is awaited for from the production house which is expected to be revealed in near future.
When the film was launched, director Sanjeev Pillai had said, “It’s the tale of the brave warriors of Malabar. During the Mamankam festival held at the banks of Bharathapuzha in Tirunavaya, soldiers from all over the country used to come together to wager battles and combat. This movie is about a brave leader and his loyal soldiers.”
Mamankam will also feature Tamil actor Arvind Swami and the actor will be pairing up with Mammootty after almost three decades. Arvind Swami and Mammootty last featured in Tamil film Pudhayal in 1997 which also stares Sakshi Shivanand. The duo first collaborated in Mani Ratnam directorial Thalapathi also starring Rajinikanth which was one of the biggest hits back then.
