Actor Manju Warrier will be seen playing a hardcore fan of Mohanlal in her upcoming film which is titled by the actor’s name. Directed by Sajid Yahiya, Mohanlal will have Manju Warrier playing the role of Meenukutty who is a die-hard fan of The Complete Actor. The teaser of the film was released recently by the makers and Manju’s act in the short video has left everyone impressed. But looks like the film has hit a roadblock. A filmmaker named Kalavoor Ravikumar has claimed that the story of the film is based on his short writings named Mohanlaline Enikkippol Bhayankara Pediyaanu which were published in 2005 in a daily. Reports reveal that the makers of Mohanlal were approached by Ravikumar claiming his rights and he was told that he would be credited in the title credits of the film. However, unhappy with the credit, Ravikumar has now decided to take a step ahead and move the court for his rights.
“If it is something that I have willingly given someone to use, then they could thank me. But here my story was taken without my permission and violated my rights. The matter came for a discussion before FEFKA and the writers’ union has found resemblance in the film’s thread. They might have reconstructed the screenplay but the story is the same,” Ravikumar was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle.
Director Sajid Yahiya says that his issue is not a major one and things like these do happen. “His claim is not that we have stolen his story. It is about a girl getting highly obsessed with actor Mohanlal, a theme in common to his story and the film. As we were called by FEFKA, a fully bound script was submitted. He was reluctant to give it a read. Despite me fighting hard, as per FEFKA’s advice, I agreed to give him a special thanks card. Earlier too, the director has made similar claims over other movies. We are ready to submit the script to the court if needed,” said Sajid.
