Mohanlal: No one opposed when Dileep's reinstatement in AMMA was presented at the recent meeting

As we all know AMMA’s decision of reinstating actor Dileep has hit the controversy. Dileep’s former wife Manju Warrier, Parvathy, Remya Nambisan and Rima Kallingal of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) raised their voice against the decision of AMMA. As earlier we reported, four actresses Rima Kallingal, Remya Nambeesan, Geethu Mohandas and the victim of the sexual assault quit AMMA following the decision of reinstating actor Dileep. The newly elected president of AMMA, Mohanlal finally held a press meet over the controversy.

At the press meet held today at the Ernakulam press club, Mohanlal said that after rape controversy surrounding Dileep broke out last year, the members of the association took an oral decision to expel him under pressure and that they never conducted any official process to expel him. He further said that Dileep himself said that he would stay away from the Association until he walks out clean in the rape case of a Malayalam actress.

Mohanlal defended the decision to take back Dileep by resorting to citing the rulebook. He said, “‘We had decided suddenly that Dileep had to be ousted as FEFKA and Producers’ Council had taken action against him. Later, this (taking him back) had to be presented at the General Body meeting. When it was presented, no one opposed. No woman, no opposing group said anything against taking Dileep back.”

However, he also said that he was with the survivor.

The Malayalam superstar also spoke about receiving only two resignation letters from Bhavana and Remya Nambeesan to quit AMMA and the association is yet to decide on it.

Mohanlal then took offence at the fact that Dileep has said he will stay away from AMMA. “Now, Dileep doesn’t want to come to AMMA. So what is the point of us discussing whether to take him back?” he said at the press meet.

The survivor had alleged that how Dileep had taken away all her chances of acting in Malayalam movies. At the press meet, reacting to the allegations, Mohanlal said he has not received any written complaint from her and that AMMA was trying to help her out with work. Mohanlal also revealed how she had opted out a Muscat show that she had been invited to.

The AMMA president also said that if Dileep is acquitted, AMMA would welcome him back.
