Veteran director and one of the inspirational filmmakers of Malayalam cinema I.V.Sasi passed away this morning in Chennai after having undergone a treatment for an illness. Sasi is said to be instrumental in changing the dynamics of Malayalam cinema and bringing a new perspective to film-making. One of the most respected filmmakers, I.V.Sasi has made more than 150 films in many languages but is known for his path-breaking films like Anubhavam, Aalkkoottathil Thaniye, 1921, Eeta, Mrigaya and Balram vs Tharadas among many others.
Many South Indian celebrities mourned the demise of I.V.Sasi and have expressed grief by posting messages on social media about the veteran filmmaker. Nivin Pauly wrote on his Facebook page – “It’s saddening to know that the legend of Malayalam cinema – I V Sasi sir is no more. I grew up watching his movies and must say he was an icon who created movies that stood the test of time. He certainly bridged the gap between commerce and art in Malayalam cinema like nobody else before him could. What a remarkable innings he had in the Indian cinema industry. He will be truly missed!”
Dulquer Salmaan, whose father Mammootty has worked with I.V.Sasi in many films, wrote a message on his Twitter page which read – “RIP Sasi uncle ! He created an Era of his own in Malayalam Cinema. Have fond memories of him from my childhood.”
