Popular Malayalam actor and a mimicry artist, Abu, passed away today in the wee hours at a private hospital in Kochi. Abi was said to have been being treated for an illness and breathed his last today while being treated at a private hospital in Kochi. Abi was aged 50 years and is survived by wife and son, Shane, who is also an actor in the Malayalam film industry. Abi has acted in more than 50 years in Malayalm cinema and has done numerous ads as voice-over for many artists including Amitabh Bachchan. Abi’s son, Shane, recently made his debut in Malayalam and is becoming one of the most promising actors in the industry. Abi is very popular for his portrayal of ‘Amina Thatha’ in numerous movies and his comic timing.

It is being reported that Abi was undergoing treatment at the hospital after his blood platelet count is said to have gone down. A report in TNM quoted the PRO of the hospital which read – “He was brought dead to the hospital at 10.20. The death happened 45 mins before that. He was battling cancer and had been under treatment of Dr Pavitran for the last five to six months.”

Abi has acted in close to 50 films which include Mazhavil Koodaram, Kireedamillatha Rajakkanmar, Mimics Action 500, Aniyathipravu and Resikan. Abi began his career as a mimicry artist in Malayalam industry in the early 90s along with popular actors like Dileep and Nadirshah among many others. Abi was believed to be the king of mimicry in the mid 90s which helped him get a break in Malayalam cinema.
