The general body meeting of Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) recently took place at a hotel in Kochi. The meeting saw biggies Mohanlal, Jayaram, Mammootty and others in presence. Quite a few things were discussed in the meeting, which are currently a talk of the town. Mohanlal takes a charge as the president of AMMA, actor Dileep has been reinstated to the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). Dileep, one of the accused in an assault case that took the whole of Kerala by storm a year ago, is back now. A year after his ouster, he is back and this has not gone well among the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC).
Following Dileep’s return, the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) resigned from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) on Wednesday. Rima Kallingal, Remya Nambeesan, Geethu Mohandas and the victim of the sexual assault are the people who have put their resignation to protest Dileep’s return.
“It is meaningless to continue in this organisation,” wrote the victim in a statement after announcing her decision to resign from AMMA.
On the other hand, Rima Kallingal in a note wrote, “What happened right now is not a problem that can be confined to a single person or a single organisation. I’m not leaving ‘AMMA’ for just this one problem. I’m leaving with the hope that the next generation will be able to able to courageously continue with full self-respect and without making any compromises.”
Not only the women of the association, even political leaders have slammed this movie by AMMA.
