The iconic Mammootty is beyond any doubt one of the most decorated names in Malayalam cinema today. During an iconic career that spans over four decades, the veteran has won the love of fans courtesy his stylish personality, gripping performances, and range as a performer. Furthermore, he has won several accolades and proved that he is the heart and soul of Malayalam cinema.
Now, his fans have a reason to rejoice. According to reports, his ‘Streetlights’ is all set to hit screens and could turn out to be his next release. Interestingly, initial reports suggested that Ajai Vasudevan’s ‘Masterpiece’ would arrive in theatres first, however, it seems that the honour will now go to ‘Streetlights’. Helmed by cinematographer-turned-director Shamdath, it is a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual and will see Mammootty essay the role of a cop. A drama-thriller, it also has Lijomol in the lead.
On a related note, even at 66, Mammootty is not showing any signs of slowing down. At present, besides ‘Streetlights’ and ‘Masterpiece’ he also has ‘Peranbu’ and ‘Uncle’ in his kitty. ‘Peranbu’ is touted to be a drama and has been directed by noted director Ram. As far as ‘Uncle’ is concerned, it is being directed by Girish Damodar and went on the floors in September. Sometime ago, a source had told a daily, that the film will revolve around the importance of one’s family.
“The social and political milieu of Kerala is of much importance in the movie and it’s about an unusual situation a family is made to face. Mammootty will be seen in a different role altogether,” the source had added.
