Yesteryear Malayalam actress P Vasanthakumari, aged 65, died today in Thodpuzha due to cancer. P Vasanthakumari, popularly known as Thodupuzha Vasanthi, was battling the dreadful disease for many years now and breathed her last in the wee hours of Tuesday in Thodpuzha. Thodupuzha Vasanthi began her career in 1975 with a film titled Dharmakshetra Kurukshetra. She later appeared in many popular films like Ente Neelaksham and Alolam. Thodupuzha Vasanthi had received the Kerala State Award for her contribution in theatre. Thodupuzha Vasanthi last appeared in a film titled Ithu Thaanda Police which starred Asif Ali in the lead role.
Thodupuzha Vasanthi was said to have been battling with numerous tough situations in life including the life-threatening disease, cancer, and financially crunch situations. In an unimaginable situation, Thodpuzha Vasanthi has faced many situations where she had to deal with utmost courage. Thodpuzha Vasanthi’s father Ramakrishnan Nair was diagnosed with cancer and she had to cut down on her cinema commitments, who later passed away. Thodpuzha Vasanthi’s husband, Rajeendran, too was diagnosed with cancer who again passed away in 2010. All this seems to be straight out of an 80s movie but these were the hardships faced by the popular actress Thodpuzha Vasanthi.
Besides acting and theater, Thodpuzha Vasanthi also ran a dance academy in Thodpuzha where she used to teach various forms of popular South Indian dance. The Malayalam film industry veterans are mourning the passing away of the popular actress Thodpuzha Vasanthi.
