Anjali Patil and Rajinikanth

There can be no denying that the lovely Anjali Patil is one of the most promising young actors in Indian cinema today. In just a few years, the lady has carved a niche for herself courtesy her daring selection o f roles and her keenness to experiment with her onscreen image. Anjali is perhaps best known in the Southern film industry for her critically-acclaimed and Nandi award winning act in the social drama Naa Bangaaru Thalli. Her most notable Hindi film is Newton.

She will soon be seen alongside Rajinikanth in Kaala. During an exclusive chat with Pinkvilla, she opened about working with K-town’s biggest superstar as well as her mantra for a stress free life.

How was the experience of working with Rajinikanth in Kaala?

It is the biggest film of my career. Rajini sir is a superstar and he deserves the praise we shower on him. He is a thorough gentleman and is just so gracious. Sir is so caring and there is so much one can learn from him.

What are some the things you learnt from ‘Thalaiva’?

I learnt and unlearnt a lot of things in the four months I shot for Kaala. When you are around him you feel happy. We should learn from him how to make others feel happy/comfortable. He knows that we do everything to be happy.

Actors normally have a rather busy life and, at times, things get hectic. How do you manage to beat stress and de-stress?

I de-stress by disappearing. I go away and lose all connection with people in my professional life. I also go to my home state Himachal Pradesh and chat with people/ have chai and forget everything else.

At a professional level, how has the journey been so far?

When I entered, I came as a student from two big drama schools and felt that work is like worship. Over time, I have realised that the industry is about the business as well. If you decide to focus on the business you will change. But if you stay stubborn and have your own demands as an artiste people will evolve/change with you. To put things in a simpler way, I have learned to be honest. I am what I am.

What are the professional goals you want to fulfil in the near future?

I think anything that can challenge me as an actor is my dream role. I want to do something that is commercial and involves dance. At the same time, I want to try my hand at comedy, epic-drama and period films. I learned recently that I can be funny so I definitely want to do a film that is funny or quirky. There is however, not one definite dream project or role that I have in mind.
