Earlier today, Tamil superstar Rajinikanth put an end to all speculations surrounding his entry into politics and confirmed that he will soon be forming his own political party, adding a new dimension to his life. While making the announcement, he revealed that his party will field candidates on all 234 constituencies in the next Tamil Nadu state assembly election and change the political dynamics of the state.
“I will be beginning my own party and will be contesting in the upcoming State Elections. We will independently stand in all 234 Constituencies in Tamil Nadu. Before the state election, we will discuss what we can do, and what we cannot do. If we don’t do what we promise, We will resign within 3 years. We will be running spiritual politics. In the past one year, Tamil Nadu politics has come down to a miserable state. People from the other states are frowning upon us. Even after all this, If I am going to stay quiet, my conscience will prick me to the day I die. This is the state and you are the people who are the reason I am living today,” he added.
The star also claimed that he was entering the scene not to gain power but to strive for change.
Don’t assume that I am standing because I want the position. If I wanted this political chair, I could have had it in 1996. The position came to me, but I didn’t want it that time. If I didn’t want it at 45 years of age, do you think I will be craving for it at 68? If I did, there wouldn’t be a bigger idiot than me,” added Rajinikanth.
Shortly thereafter, Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan took to Twitter and congratulated ‘Thalaiva’ for taking the plunge.
“My dear friend, my colleague and a humble considerate human, RAJNIKANTH, announces his decision to enter politics .. my best wishes to him for his success,” he tweeted.
Well, this is a sweet message indeed and it could create a buzz amongst fans. In case you did not know, Rajini shares a lovely friendship with Big B and considers him to be a legend in the truest sense. He had once said that the ‘Ajooba’ star is a source of inspiration for him.
“We have done films like ‘Andha Kanoon’, ‘Giraftar’, ’Hum’, and I can never forget the love, affection and care he showered on me,” he had added.
It is good to see that this friendship has survived the test of time.
On a related note, this is a busy time for both men on the professional side of things. At present, Rajini has ‘Kaala’ and ‘2.0’ in his kitty. ‘Kaala’ is touted to be a crime-drama and has been directed by Pa Ranjith. In it, Rajinikanth will be seen alongside Bollywood diva Huma Qureshi. Some time ago, she had said that he is a humble person and hence is a joy to work with.
“It’s an amazing experience to work with Rajinikanth. When he walks, everybody becomes silent and make space for him. For me, the most beautiful thing with him is the simplicity he carries. He is such a humble person. I have never seen a superstar who is so humble, who is so simple and down-to-earth,” she had told a daily.
On the other hand, ‘2.0’ is a sci-fi thriller and has been directed by S Shankar. A sequel to the 2010 release ‘Enthiran’, it will see Rajini reprise his Chitti character from the first part. Its audio launch was held in Dubai in October and it proved to be quite an extravaganza. At the event, Rajini had thanked his fans for supporting him throughout his career.
“I don’t even remember how these 40 years passed. It still feels like 4-5 years. If not for god’s grace and the love of my fans, I wouldn’t have come this far. These 40 years have taught me that fame and money only bring minimum happiness. When people ask me is it difficult to be Rajinikanth, I tell them it’s only possible because of my faith in the almighty,” he had added.
So, what’s your reaction to Rajinikanth entering politics? Comments, please!
