Sridevi’s untimely demise has undoubtedly left her fans and well-wishers in a state of shock. Fondly called the ‘Last Empress’, she gave Hindi cinema some of its biggest hits and established herself as a force to be reckoned with. However, before conquering Bollywood, the star ruled Tamil cinema for quite a few years.
During this time, she formed a close friendship with Rajinikanth. The two starred in several films and entertained fans with their chemistry. Perhaps that is why, when Rajini fell ill in 2012, Sridevi vowed to keep a week-long pious fast and pray for Rajini’s speedy recovery. Interestingly, Sridevi undertook this without informing anyone else and spoke about it only after the Chandramukhi star returned home.
“Rajini was very close to my mother. He was like a son. When we were all talking, Rajini would ask how he can become a big star like Kamal. My mother would say, you will definitely become like that. Rajini wanted to earn Rs.30,000. He is very humble, very good at heart. He always wants to help others. He doesn’t like it when someone is facing some difficulty. He wants everyone to be happy. He is a good man and very talented,” she had added.
Not surprisingly, shortly after Sridevi’s death, Rajini had expressed his grief and said that she was a dear friend.
“This is a big, big, big loss to Indian film industry. I have very few close friends. Among them, Sridevi was one. I have lost her. My heart is very heavy,” he had said.
Sridevi’s death is truly heart-breaking and we hope that her family stays strong in this sad time.
