Sathyaraj as Kattappa in Baahubali

Sathyaraj, who played the role of Katappa in Baahubali, put his best efforts to ensure the secret did not leak out regarding the killing of Baahubali. He did not disclose it even to his family, who is very close to and shares everything about his work. Sathyaraj’s daughter, Divya Sathyaraj, shares some interesting things about Sathyaraj and how he managed to hide it from his family the secret.

I did not ask him about it even once and neither did my mom or Sibi. I did bully him once though saying I would tell all my friends! Sibi and I would play guessing games in front of Dad. He would simply smile and say nothing. Even if we had pestered him, he wouldn’t have told any of us. I think that was the only secret he kept from me because we are the best of friends and tell each other everything. We knew the secret only when we watched the film. I have already seen the film twice and will be watching it with my granny (dad’s mom) and dad again,” said Divya Sathyaraj to a leading daily.

Talking about Sathyaraj’s closeness to his family, Divya added, “My dad has always narrated scripts to me since I was 10 — and has always asked my mom, brother and me our opinions on them. When he narrated the one liner from Baahubali, I loved it but was not sure if he should do the film because he had to be in Hyderabad for a long time. I am not used to him staying away for that long — his outdoor schedules have always been for song shoots, which usually last a week or two.

Divya says that she and the family knew that Baahubali would be a monumental success from the time it kicked off. Talking about this, Divya added, “A while ago, a friend of mine sent me a video, which had the Honourable PM, Narendra Modi mentioning ‘Kattappa’, in one of his speeches. I was very excited after watching the video. I knew Baahubali would be a big film and we are very happy that it has broken all records.”
