Filmmaker A.R. Murugadoss is one of the finest filmmakers in South Indian cinema who has become a renowned name in Bollywood circles too. With films like Ghajini, Thuppakki and Akira, Murugadoss has scaled greater heights in career and made a great name for himself. His upcoming film, SPYder starring Super Star Mahesh Babu and Rakul Preet in the lead roles, is hitting the big screens on September 27, 2017 worldwide simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil. Interestingly, Spyder will mark the debut of Mahesh Babu in Tamil since it is his first straight Tamil film.
Speaking to The Hindu, A.R. Murugadoss spoke about the challenges of shooting a bilingual and how Mahesh supported him throughout the shoot of the film. “I have made remakes and I’ve shot in multiple languages, but a bi-lingual is just so much tougher. It really feels like you’re making two films at the same time. Just when you somehow manage to get a scene right after many takes, an AD comes to you and says, ‘Sir, now we have to shoot the Telugu version’. It is physically and emotionally draining,” said Murugadoss.
Speaking about Mahesh Babu, Murugadoss said that Mahesh’s birth and upbringing in Chennai did help in the Tamil version of SPYder. “He studied in Loyola and he has all the vibes of a Chennai boy. If you see both films, you will notice how perfectly he has modulated his voice to suit each language,” added the director further. Besides Mahesh Babu and Rakul, SPYder also features SJ Suryah and Bharath Niwas in important roles.
