The highly talented Nivin Pauly is arguably one of the most popular young stars in the Malayalam film industry today, He enjoys a strong fan following thanks to his good looks, charming personality and of course range as a performer. Moreover, movie buffs like him courtesy his humble nature and friendly attitude. Now, there is some good news for his fans. As it so happens, his maiden Tamil film ‘Richie’—which hit screens on December 8—has managed to do reasonably well at the box office. The crime-drama collected Rs 5.12 crore on day 1 and got off to a good start at the box office. Thereafter, it collected around Rs 6.10 crore on the second day and proved that it has clicked with movie buffs. It seems that the decent reviews, as well as Nivin’s popularity, seems to have worked wonders for ‘Richie’. He is already a big name in Molly and ‘Richie’ is definitely going to go a long way in helping him add a new dimension to his career.
In case you did not know, ‘Richie has been directed by Gautham Ramchandran and features Nivin in a new avatar. Recently, the director had said that the ‘Premam’ actor is a terrific guy to work with and has no ego.
“When we sat and discussed doing this project after Premam, our conversations were so casual and both of us wanted to work with no inhibitions. I told him to work with a bigger director post Premam because that was the right thing to do. Had I directed Premam, I would’ve wanted to work with a bigger star next. I also didn’t want him to work with me for the heck of it and because we had spent so much time together,“ he had told a leading website.
Interestingly, Nivin dubbed his own lines in ‘Richie’ even though it took a lot of time. Praising his dedication, Gautham had called him a perfectionist.
“We’ve followed a neutral accent throughout the film even though it’s set in Thoothukudi. Nivin is not a native speaker of the language and hence his accent is quite thick. We’ve put as much effort to make his accent sound neutral. In fact, the number of days he took to dub is double the number he took to shoot for the project. What you saw in the teaser was just the first draft of dubbing. We spent a lot of time post the release of the teaser and worked on his accent,” he had added.
Besides Nivin, ‘Richie’ also features the lovely Shraddha Srinath in the lead and is the first Tamil film she had auditioned for. Speaking about the film, she had recently told a leading daily that it is not meant for ‘lazy’ people and is an intelligent watch.
“I’ll be honest. If you go in, you can’t leave your brains outside. You’ll constantly be posed with questions. You will wonder, ‘what is that? Why is she talking like this? Wasn’t he supposed to be there?’ Questions like these. It’s a very never-seen-before style of storytelling, style of filmmaking, it’s going to be a very nice experience, a nice visual treat,” Shraddha had added.
On a related note, with ‘Richie out in theatres, Nivin will now gear up for the release of ‘Hey Jude’. A romantic-comedy, it has been directed by Shaymaprasad and also has Trisha Krishnan in the lead. This will be the first Mollywood film of her successful career. Sometime ago, Nivin had praised the VTV star and said that he is a fan of her work.
“It’s been a great experience. She’s friendly, down-to-earth and comfortable to work with. In terms of acting experience, Trisha’s the senior. She made her debut in 2002 and I came into films almost a decade later. I have watched a lot of her films and have been a big fan since Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa,” he had added.
Besides ‘Hey Jude’, he also has ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ in his kitty. In it, he will be seen alongside Priya Anand. Priya’s role was originally offered to Amala Paul but she opted out because of a packed schedule.
