Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 is one of the most anticipated films this year. The film also marks Akshay Kumar’s Tamil debut as an antagonist. The distributors and trade pundits are expecting this to be one of the biggest openers this year.
However, there was no official confirmation on which day the film would release. In December, the makers finally mentioned that it would release in April, but no date was announced.
Now, after such a long wait, the release date of 2018’s highly-anticipated sci-flick has been revealed. The movie will now hit the screens on April 14, 2018. In fact, Rajinikanth himself revealed this piece of information during a media interaction. April 14 is the tamil new year, so obviously 2.0 will benefit from the holiday and the festivities that follow.
A leading daily had reported that one of the VFX studios that was working on the film failed to adhere to the deadlines, which was the main reason behind the film’s delay.
The promo of this Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar mega-budget film will be launched at Natchathira Vizha 2018, Malaysia on January 6, which will be attended by mega-star Rajinikanth.
Earlier during an interview, Akshay Kumar, who is playing a villain’s role in 2.0 movie, had said that he has never done a role like this in his career. The Holiday actor said, “I’ve never done a role like this in my entire career. And, I’ve never seen anyone doing a character like this.”
Akshay has done many negative roles in his career, however, for him, this is a completely different role. The superstar further stated, “It was a whole new experience to play the role of an anti-hero”.
Rajinikanth, on the other hand, said, ‘’It will appeal to both the global and Indian audiences. Director Shankar has a nice social message for everyone in the film”.
The movie is a sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2010 Tamil blockbuster Enthiran and also features Amy Jackson, Sudhanshu Pandey and Adil Hussain among others.
The INR 450-crore film will release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.
