He was last seen on the silver screen in “VIP 2”, directed by Soundarya Rajnikanth. It was a sequel to the 2014 film “Velaiilla Pattadhari”. The film also starred Kajol, Amala Paul, Vivek, Hrishikesh, Saranya Ponvannan and Samuthirakani.
Dhanush is currently shooting for his first association with Gautham Menon ‘Ennai Noki Paayum Thota’ which was on the back burner for a very long time. Post wrapping up the schedule of this film, Dhanush will start shooting for Maari 2 which will have Sai Pallavi playing the leading lady.
Dhanush will soon be making his debut in Hollywood with a film titled ‘The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir’ which is being directed by Ken Scott. The actor recently wrapped up the shooting of the film and has commenced work on Gautham Menon’s film. Dhanush seems quite excited about his debut in Hollywood and sources close to the actor reveal that he has worked very hard for his role in the film. “What’s great is I get to work with a great actor, Dhanush, who is a huge star in India, he’s a great actor, but also a great dancer, a great singer, he has a unique way of dancing and moving, he’s just very charming,” director Ken Scott had recently said in an interview.
The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir was initially supposed to be directed by acclaimed French filmmaker Marjane Satrapi but later went to Ken Scott for unknown reasons. Besides Dhanush, the film also stars Berenice Bejo, Barkhad Abdi, Erin Moriarty, Seema Biswas and Laurent Lafitte. There were rumours that Uma Thurman will be part of this film but the makers have not confirmed this part officially.
Dhanush has been straddling multiple industries and he says he is constantly learning. “Irrespective of the industry I work in, I’m constantly learning from the people I work with. If Bollywood taught me a lot about production, Hollywood has been a revelation in terms of understanding filmmaking better,” Dhanush said recently.
In the film, directed by Marjane Satrapi, he plays a street magician called Ajatashatru. Dhanush is thrilled about the project. “It’s God’s grace that I landed this offer. Although I have been offered three Hollywood projects, the script of this one really convinced me to sign it. It’s a very strong role. I play a character called Ajatashatru, a street magician,” he said, adding it’s a very positive film. “I believe what you spread out comes back seeking you. It’s such a positive film and it’s all about spreading positivity,” he added.
Dhanush will also reunite with his Bollywood debut film ‘Raanjhana’ director Aanand L Rai for a film which will kick start in 2018. With Tamil projects such as “Maari 2”, “Enai Noki Paayum Thota” and “Vada Chennai” in his kitty, Dhanush will commence work on his next Hindi film next year.
