Ghilli was one of the path-breaking movies in Vijay’s career and made Vijay the Super Star he is today. Vijay, crowned as Ilayathalapathy, is one of the top actors in Tamil Nadu and enjoys a great fan following not just in Tamil Nadu, but across all the Southern states. His choice of subjects is widely appreciated by the audience. Vijay has risen to this stature over a period gradually and all that started with Ghilli in 2003.
Ghilli, a remake of Mahesh Babu and Bhumika starrer Okkadu in Telugu, changed the direction of Vijay’s career and brought him the star status. Ghilli is believed to be the first movie to have crossed the INR 40 crore mark after Super Star Rajinikanth’s Padiyappa, which had touched INR 30 crore mark. Post-Ghilli, Vijay had become the Ilayathalapthy(meaning Junior Commander-in-Chief) and most sought after actor in Tamil.
There were speculations earlier that a sequel to Ghilli is being made and Vijay has given his nod to it. Going by the latest reports looks like this might be a possibility. Director Dharani recently interacted with the media and shed some light on these developments. “I’ve already prepared the story for Ghilli 2 with an interesting knot. If Vijay agrees, we can start the film anytime,” said Dharani.
With the director being prepared for the sequel, will Vijay give a go-ahead for Ghilli 2? We only can wait and see what happens.
Vijay is currently working on his upcoming film with director Atlee, which is being referred to as Vijay 61. The unit is in Jaisalmer shooting for a couple of songs and will return to Chennai to complete the first leg of the shoot.
