Noted director Karthik Subbaraj is currently gearing up for the release of the eagerly-awaited Mercury. And, as expected, this silent thriller has created a buzz amongst movie buffs. Recently, via a press note, the director said that as Mercury is a silent film the stars were expected to emote purely through their facial expressions. He added that this made the whole experience a challenging one.
“Mercury is one of the most challenging projects I have worked on. From the nuances of the actor’s expressions to the minute technicals of the movie, everything needed to be monitored and looked into. The actors were required to emote purely with their face,” added the director.
He also said that Mercury helped him evolve as a director and push his limits.
“The cast has been extremely supportive on this journey. Besides being one of the most ambitious projects I have worked on, Mercury has also helped me enhance my skills as a director,” he added.
Interestingly, Mercury features noted actor Prabhudheva in the lead and working with a star of his stature was a good experience for the director. Talking about the shoot, he said that a lot of care was taken ensure that things were synchronised in a proper way.
“We shot a lot of this movie in the night. The lighting, set design etc. had to be in sync. Month-long workshops were held with Prabhudeva and the actors on how to emote using their facial expressions only,” added Karthik Subbaraj.
If all goes as planned, Mercury will hit screens on April 13, 2018.
On a related note, this is a busy time for Karthik Subbaraj. He will soon be directing Rajinikanth in what is the biggest film of his promising career. As far as Prabhudheva is concerned, he currently has Lakshmi in his kitty.
