EXCLUSIVE: 2.0: Everything that went into the making of larger than life outfits for Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar

India’s costliest film 2.0 starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar in the lead roles has released at the box office. 2.0 is a sequel to the 2010 blockbuster Robot and after being postponed several times, the film finally hit the screens this Thursday, November 29, 2018. The making of the film only revealed that it is a VFX extravaganza. As Akshay Kumar had revealed, it is “India’s first 75 million dollar VFX wonder”. Both the Baahubali parts were together of lesser cost than 2.0. Not just that, a lot has gone through making the larger than life outfits for Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar in the film.

Pinkvilla got in touch with the supremely talented fashion designer, Rocky Star who spoke about the journey of the film, how much time did it take for him to create the costumes for the two actors. Talking about styling Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, Rocky said, “You know when it comes to Shankar Sir, no one can say anything. But we did a lot of homework for Rajini Sir, Akshay and Amy Jackson; so, our homework was so perfect that there wasn’t much left for them to give us any inputs. All the three came alive when they wore the clothes, got into the skin of the character. Rajini Sir is like a blank canvas, so you give him the outfit and he transforms into that character. It was truly amazing to work with him.”

Talking about the headgears and accessories used along with the outfits, Rocky S said, “There was actually a special team which had come down from Los Angeles for the makeup and special looks. So, it was all created there and brought to Chennai for the shoot. Akshay would take almost 4-5 hours to put his makeup and hair. So, we would wake up at 5 am for a 10 am shoot, almost everyday. It’s not just me but a complete team effort that has gone for the creation of the looks.”

The designer didn’t reveal the exact amount that went behind the making of the costumes but said that a huge budget was kept aside only for the film’s costume. Well, this is quite evident in the looks of both the stars.
