During a recent TV discussion about the Mersal controversy, BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao made a shocking statement about the film fraternity in general and said that stars have a low IQ. As it so happens, Bollywood filmmaker-actor Farhan Akhtar took offence to his remark and decided to give him a piece of his mind. In a strongly-worded tweet, he said that Rao should have been ashamed of his remarks.
“How dare you, sir?? @GVLNRAO And to all film people in his ranks.. here’s what he thinks of you. #shame” he added.
Needless to say, Rao took note of his tweet and said that he was merely stating his opinion. He went on to add that Akhtar should have refrained from using phrases like ‘how dare you?’.
“Farhan ji, Expressing an opinion is not a dare. Respect stars4work. Pl do take criticism in stride. No intolerance please!” he added.
Well, this is a sensitive situation and it will be worth watching what happens next. In case you did not know, ‘Mersal’ hit screens during Deepavali and opened to a thunderous response at the ticket window while earning rave reviews along the way. Interestingly, the film contains a scene which makes fun of the central government’s GST initiative. And, not surprisingly, this has not gone down well with BJP. In fact, a lady leader even went to the extent of calling it a ‘political move’.
