During a recently-held award function, actress Jyothika said that tryst with women’s empowerment began at the age of 17 courtesy the positive influence of her mother. She went on to add that her mom would always tell to keep a healthy bank balance as it would help her walk out of unwanted/bad relationships and protect her self-dignity.

“I believe that women empower women and my journey started at the age of 17. So, there are many women who are behind me. First, at the age of 17 was my mother. She’s a ferocious lady. One day she told me, ‘Jo, you have to stand here and face people, face the world.’ She told me, ‘I want money in your bank because if you haven’t met the right man, keep your head high and walk out of the relationship. It’s not worth it.’ Thank you to my Amma for teaching me self-worth and self-respect,” she added.

Jyothika further added that her daughter Diya’s smile gives her strength and makes her feel like an empowered woman. She stressed that she wants her daughter to be a strong woman when she grows up.

“Her smile every morning is my empowerment. She is the one who makes me very proud and I promise this to all of you that 10-15 years henceforth, I will make sure she stands on this dais, receiving this award,” said the actress.

Well, these are some sweet words and are bound to create a buzz amongst her fans, On a related note, Jo was last seen in ‘Magalir Mattum’ which did well at the box office. She will next be seen in a Mani Ratnam directorial.
