It was recently reported that one K. Rajashekaran had alleged that the story of Kaala Karikaalan featuring Rajinikanth had claimed that the story was written by him and not director Pa Ranjith. Rajashekaran had even filed a petition with a court in Chennai against the makers of Kaala and Rajinikanth.
According to a report in Deccan Chronicle, Super Star Rajinikanth has told the court that the story of Kaala was written by Pa Ranjith himself and not copied from someone else. The petitioner, K. Rakashekaran had claimed that the film title and story belonged to him and sought directions to Rajinikanth, Pa Ranjith, producer Dhanush of Wunderbar Films Private Limited, South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC) to stop filming.
When the petition came for hearing, Vinod Kumar, the Executive Director of Wunderbar Films, filed a counter affidavit on behalf of Rajinikanth and the production house, and stated that the story was not copied and was written by Pa Ranjith himself.
The counter affidavit read – “Ranjith wrote the story titled – Kaala – about an underworld gang leader in Mumbai named Karikalan. Ranjith approached Wunderbar Films to produce the film based on his story with Rajinikanth in the lead role.”
Vinod Kumar also told the court that is a stranger and not registered in the unions of the film industry. “K. Rajashekaran is a complete stranger and present suit is not maintainable. The title of the movie is different from the title of Rajashekaran. He has no locus standi to seek any relief against the movie. In his own pleadings, he disclosed that title registration lapsed.”
The court is, however, yet to give its verdict on this petition which is expected to happen in the next hearing.
