Kamal Haasan: The real purpose of winning elections is to give good governance

Veteran actor Kamal Haasan has been in the limelight these days because of his fierce criticism of the ruling Tamil Nadu government as well his impending entry into the world of politics. In fact, a few days ago, he had even confirmed that he would be launching his own party and beginning a new chapter in life.

Now, Haasan has once again made a strong statement about politics and ruffled a few feathers. In his column for a regional magazine, the ‘Papanasam’ star asked his readers what is the true meaning of victory in politics. He went on to add that unless people get good governance, an election serves no purpose.

“What is the real victory in politics- forming a new political party, selecting candidates for each constituency, winning the majority of seats and becoming Chief Minister. The real purpose of winning is to give good governance to the people. If that doesn’t happen, winning in elections is pointless,” he wrote.

Interestingly, these comments come a few days after his contemporary superstar Rajinikanth had said that fame isn’t enough to win elections. As such, this could be a veiled response to his remarks.

On the film front, Haasan currently has ‘Sabash Naidu’ and ‘Vishwaroopam 2’ in his kitty. Both films have been in the cans for a while but are expected to finally hit screens this year. Interestingly, Haasan also confirmed that he would soon be joining hands with S Shankar for ‘Indian 2’.
