Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus has been embroiled in a string of controversies ever since its announcement. Now, superstar Kamal Haasan has come out in support of Padmavati.

Today, the actor took to his Twitter account to show his support to Deepika Padukone, who has received death threats from several groups for acting in the movie.

He tweeted, “I want Ms.Deepika’s head.. saved. Respect it more than her body.Even more her freedom. Do not deny her that. Many communities have apposed my films.Extremism in any debate is deplorable. Wake up cerebral India.Time to think. We’ve said enough. Listen Ma Bharat.’’

The reaction of the actor has come days after Haryana BJP chief media coordinator Suraj Pal Amu put a bounty of Rs 10 crore on the heads of Bhansali and Deepika. Suraj made his comments after a Meerut resident from the Kshatriya community announced a reward of Rs 5 crore for beheading these celebrities.

Other Tamil film celebrities have also reacted to the controversies surrounding the film. Actor-politician R Sarath Kumar said the film fraternity should unite against the constant bullying of its members. “The film industry is being constantly bullied by divisive forces in the name of religion & culture which is going unnoticed by the gov.Disheartening to see such unruly behavior & threats. It’s time for film fraternity to unite & speak in one loud voice.@deepikapadukone #Padmavati,” he tweeted.

“Art is meant to stimulate your mind, arouse your curiosity led me to read about the epic Padmavat, first known source, a fictionalised poem written by Malik Muhammed in which Padmavati is the princess of Sinhal (Sri Lanka).. can’t find much in history on the topic #Padmavati,” said actor Arvind Swami.

Padmavati, featuring Deepika as Rani Padmavati, has been mired in controversy over conjectures that it “distorts history” regarding the Rajput queen. Bhansali has repeatedly denied the charge.

The release date of the film has been pushed back from December 1, but some groups are demanding a ban on the movie.

When a leading news agency asked Deepika about the ongoing controversies surrounding Padmavati, the actor revealed, ‘’ Well, at this point, as a woman, an artiste and a citizen of this country I feel angry, I feel let down and I also find it amusing. I will never feel scared. Fear is not an emotion I have ever identified with.’’

Film industry should be united or they will face this kind of situation again.terrorists like threats on actors is disgusting .this should be condemned on all level public and government

In the name of artistic creativity, filmmakers should stop destroying the historic fact. Its not only about entertainment, audiences who go to watch movie will believe whatever the director shows and that the fact. Its insulting for Rajput Hindus, to show Queen dancing like a mujra girl in front of the entire palace staffs. And its insulting for Muslims, to show Kijli eating chicken like a demon. Both are distortion of a great histrionic figures. One the great Rajput Queen. Other the great Muslim Sultan.

Why don’t bhansali change his movie names…..why court controversies by naming movie after historic figure…..didn’t bhansali make mastani and bajiraos wife dance in his previous movie…….y tamper with history ? Just change ur movie name

Seriously? Kamal hassan have nothing else to do in his own life then worrying about release of the movie based on fictional character.

We have had so many movies with opposition…. bajirao mastani ( was that real story of bajirao??? can he or would he be dancing like that in his times?) well we all should learn to take movies as entertainment value and nothing else. Just change the name of the movie and I think all will be great. Some fictional story ….
