Looks like the wait has finally come to an end as director Karthik Subbaraj has finally opened up about his long-awaited film with Dhanush. This film was supposed to be bankrolled by Thenandal Studios Limited, the same banner which produced Mersal. But now, they have opted out of the film and Sashikanth of YNOT studio has come forward to produce this yet to be titled movie. YNOT studio had earlier produced Vikram Vedha which was a super hit gangster thriller of 2017.

Talking to a leading channel, Karthik said, “After Iraivi, I wanted to do a film with Dhanush and Thenandal was supposed to produce the movie. But since Thenandal had committed to work on Mersal, there was a six months delay. Now they are not in a position to produce the film and YNOT Studio has come on board. Since I have received the offer to direct Superstar Rajinikanth for now, we all have mutually agreed that I’ll finish Thalaivar’s movie first and move on to this one next.”
Talking about the genre of his yet-to-be-titled film with Dhanush, Karthik said, “This is going to be a gangster type of film and will completely take place in New York.”

The movie will have a Hollywood actor playing the antagonist. Earlier the makers tried to approach Robert De Niro and Al Pacino for the role, but it went in vain.

The movie was scheduled to go on floor in 2016. Dhanush had then announced that he would be collaborating with the Pizza director. But because of a “no news further” situation, there were reports that the movie has been dropped out.

Karthik will start the shooting of the film after he completes his upcoming magnum opus with Rajinikanth. Currently, Karthik is gearing up for the release of his movie, Mercury on April 13 The movie stars Prabhudeva in the lead role. Mercury will release everywhere except Tamil Nadu because of the ongoing strike.
