Ever since the news broke out that Mani Ratnam will is ready to roll his next film in Tamil, there have been many speculations regarding the cast of the film. There were reports doing rounds that Aditi Rao Hydari might be roped in as the female lead again for this film and R. Madhavan might be playing the lead actor in the yet to be titled film.
Reports are now emerging the cast is yet to be finalised for Mani Ratnam’s next and the talks are still on with many actors. “Mani sir is in talks with a few actors and this includes Madhavan. But he hasn’t signed anyone yet and the process will take a few more weeks,” a source close to Mani Ratnam told a news agency. The duo have worked together in three films in the past – Alaipyuthey, Aayutha Ezuthu and Kannathil Muthamittal with Maddy in the lead role. Madhavan has appeared in Guru in Hindi which was a supporting role though.
This gives an indication that Madhavan is indeed one of the actors that is in contention for the film. Madhavan currently has a film lined up for release titled Vikram Vedha which also features Vijay Sethupathi. Vikram Vedha is about a fierce cop and a ruthless criminal who lock horns when their paths cross.
Mani Ratnam, on the other hand, just had a release in Kaatru Veliyidai which featured Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead roles. The film received a warm response in both Tamil and Telugu, where it was titled Cheliyaa. Mani Ratnam loyal fans loved the visuals and praised the movie but many said it turned out to be a dud. Kaatru Veliyidai, however, opened the gates for Aditi Rao Hydari in South Indian films.
