Vijay’s ‘Mersal’ is the flavour of this festive seasons and has been making a lot of buzz ever since the first look of the film was released. Directed by Atlee, this commercial potboiler has Vijay in triple roles much to the joy of his fans. The actor seems to brought out the best in him for Mersal, going by the reviews and response from the fans. Mersal grossed an all-time record collection at the premiere shows in the US which stand at $350k, even before the release. This is a record for a Non-Rajinikanth film in the US and the best ever in Vijay’s career.
Day 1 collections of Mersal in Chennai alone stand at approximately INR 1.5 crore, which is then highest for any South Indian film. The previous highest grossers were Ajith’s Vivegam at INR 1.21 crore and Kabali at INR 1.12 crore. Mersal beats all these records and is now the highest grosser in Chennai and is expected to be the highest grosser in the state of Tamil Nadu as well, reports suggest. Mersal was released in more than 3000 screens worldwide which is the highest ever for a Vijay’s film.
Despite facing many roadblocks ahead of the release in the form of strike protesting the double taxation, Mersal emerges winner this Diwali and making it a special one for the producers, Sri Thenandal Films. Mersal is the 100th film for Sri Thenandal Films a producers and with the film becoming such a huge success, the festive season of Diwali would be special one for the producers.
