The film earned mammoth collections from the US premier shows, $341k, which is an all-time record for a Tamil film in overseas markets. Mersal, in Tamil Nadu, on day 1 earned approximately INR 43 crores including a record collections of INR 1.53 crores in Chennai alone. This is the best for any Tamil film in Chennai beating the previous records of Kabali and Baahubali.
