Actor Kamal Haasan recently visited legendary Tamil novelist and scriptwriter V. Balakumaran’s house to offer condolences to his family. Known for his novels like Mercury Pookkal among others, Thayumanavan Balakumaran passed away earlier this week at a private hospital due to prolonged illness, leaving the whole industry in shock. After the visit, Kamal Haasan interacted with the media and shared some interesting things that is sure to amaze you. He shared, “I knew Balakumaran even before he came into films. A young writer who penned novels like Mercury Pookkal. Late Subramiaraju, Balakumaran and me used to talk about lot of stories, novels, new age cinema and more. It was a time when the world hadn’t decided how big stars we were, but we had thoughts on it. We were confident and were talking about how to change Tamil cinema. We didn’t even think if we had the age and experience for it, but we spoke about it with enthusiasm.”

“It was me, who persuaded and forced him to come into cinema. He has worked with Balachander and Bhagiyaraj. He has worked with me also. ‘Nayagan’ was an important film. He was a wonderful writer. In fact, we have written a story together. It was happy days, but all stories need to come to an end,” he added.

Balakumaran has penned down more than 150 novels and more than 100 short stories. He is survived by his wife and two children. The whole Tamil film industry recently attended the last rites of the veteran writer and paid their last respects. Many veteran filmmakers and friends paid their tributes to Balakumaran, including Sivakumar, Nasser and Linguswamy among others.
